Debugging the breakroom and Cost-Efficiency

We (The guys of course) finally took a vote and decided on a TV and Sony PS3. Hooray! We got a plasma TV with a price to die for.

We brought in TV and PS3, opened the boxes, read the instructions, connected the cables and finally powered on the devices. Off to the races we went, we started playing the PS3 and everything looked insanely good until we all encountered strained necks and wondered why. We performed a low-level debugging that quickly revealed that we indeed have a level 5 critical bug on our hands - we didn’t have a TV stand.

As we blew our funding on the big item toys i.e. TV and PS3. We needed a cost-efficient solution quickly and one that is aesthetically pleasing (highly subjective)

Our engineering program manager Paul Yang came up with a cool solution below.

5 Cinder blocks pieces

Single large timber board stacked on top of the cinder blocks.

We agreed to the solution. A few of us then drove down to Home Depot and lend a hand carrying the heavy items back to the office. At the checkout counter, the BOM cost added up to a whopping $USD 15 bucks. It met our project requirements with flying colors.

Below is the final results.
